Tilapia – fish that isn’t fishy

Another easy to make recipe popular in Tamil Nadu.
Typically this fish gravy recipe is suited for any freshwater fish.
Ingredients: (makes about 4 serving)
3 tilapia loins cut into 3″ fillets
3 teaspoon cumin powder
Chili powder – per taste
salt per taste
lemon size – tamarind paste soaked in hot water and make a pulp out of this about 2 cups
3 tablespoon gingelly oil
1/2 onion – coarsely chopped
To grind:
In a food processor, grind 2 tablespoon of coarsely chopped onion along with chili/cumin powder
Preparation:
- In a thick bottomed pan, pour the tamarind pulp mixture along ground masala, oil, rest of chopped onion, salt and heat the mixture until the raw smell is gone.
- Then add the filleted fish.
- Once the gravy comes to a boil, reduce the flame and let the fish gravy to thicken until oil separates.
This gravy goes well with steamed rice.
