The other day I had blog posts on curry leaf berries, and curry leaf plant.
Its more than 2 months now since had I sowed my curry leaf berries and there are about 15 “baby” curry leaf plants

Thanks to Compact fluorescent lamp -CFL. It is definitely helping my indoor plants to grow – even I see few blooms on my Jasmine plant.

On a side note, I have been reading articles on CFL that lists the downside of these bulbs. Though CFL may be energy efficient, it does contain mercury which complicates their disposal and there are health risks when they are broken.
I wonder how the congress passed the energy bill to ban the incandescent bulb by 2014, owing to the shortcomings on CFL bulbs

Hi,
I just came across ur site searching curry leaves. U ve a mix of everything (movie, plants, recipes, ect…) i really enjoy going through your posts .Your pic are awsome
is there any chance, I could get a transplant of the curry leaf plant or berries from you
Seattle is apparently in a shortage of curry leaves and is not at all available and I am going through curry leave deprivation.
Thanks
how are your plants doing now?. I have berries on my plant now. Planning to try germination when they do mature.
Parul,
It is definitely good time for the berries to germinate – unlike mine which had berries close to winter
Are those berries still green? In that case leave it until they turn brown/black and then you can start seeding them. But seed them in such a way that the berries are barely covered with soil.
Good luck!!
Yes, the berries are very small and green the size of an urad dal right now. It will be a while before they are reay.
So will germinate only when they are black and blue. How far and how many did the ones you germinated make?.
Hi sasi, im a great fan of home gardening. came accross ur blog while browsing for curry-leaf plant. You have given nice information and tips. Appreciate ur work. I bought a tiny little curry-leaf plant at an indian grocery store in NJ . It just about an inch tall. Im just wondering if the plant could survive in winter. Coz it looks very thin and puny. Im gonna try ur CFL idea. hope it works and my plant grows…
thanks anyways.
Abi,
Glad to know that you find my blog posts on curry leaves to be of some use
Regarding your curry leaf plant, make sure to give it a wash with salt water before taking this indoor for winter – that will definitely keep the spider and mealy bugs away. One of these days I will need to post this to my blog
Good luck with your curry leaf plant.
Hi,
I have sowed some berries, its been about 2 weeks but I see nothing coming. Is there some particular method of sowing them, or something that I should be aware of? Also approx. how long does it take it sprout?
Thanks
Archana,
You will need to sow them such that it is barely covered with soil. I did the mistake of putting them an inch deep and was poking around the soil later to see any sign of germination
On your other question, it should have sprouted by now..
Good luck.
do you use the leaves in cooking? or eat or cook the berries?
i have several plants in fl. it propagates readily.
aw
Hi Sasi:
I live in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The winters here are quite severe, but the summers are quite warm. The only way that I know that the Curry Leaf plant can grow here is in containers with ample artificial lighting.
I am looking for curry leaf plant seeds and if you could send me some when the weather is mild, i.e., in April or May I would be much obliged.
I have been following your blog for sometime now and find the info very interesting. Awsome pictures. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Ken
Ken,
Thanks for checking out my blog posts and wishes to you as well from the mid west. I will let you know if my curry leaf plant bear seeds next spring/summer.
-Sasi
HI,
I would like to know where i can buy the tree from. A tall one, what nursery should I buy it from?
It all depends on where you live.
Try local nursery during spring season.
Other option would be to try local Indian community events – like last fall we had people selling jasmine plants and banana tree plants during a picnic meet here in St. Louis.
Best bet would be to ask friends if they could give you a small plant – that’s how I got mine about 5 years ago from a very good friend
Good luck.
Need desperate help,
I have two curry leaf plant, during the winter all the leaves fell off and since then the stems are still bare. I dont know what to do.
Can someone please help.
Thanks
Sammi,
Sorry for getting back to you late. How are your plants doing?
I live in the chicago area where the winter time is really harsh and I have to keep my curry leaf plant inside. By late winter, my plants are infested with scales. Is there anything I can do to prevent scales?
